Alan Zhang, violin
ALAN ZHANG, a sophomore in the AP/GT programs at Mt. Hebron High School, has been playing violin since the age of five and is currently studying with Rebecca Henry at the Peabody Preparatory of the Johns Hopkins University. At the age of 9, he performed with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Strathmore and Meyerhoff Symphony Halls.
Zhang has won the Peabody Junior Concerto Competition, the 2007 Asian American Music Society International Competition, the MTNA Maryland State Competition, and was named alternate of the 2009 MTNA Eastern Regional Competition. He has given numerous recitals at Peabody, including Honors Recitals, Signature Recitals, Vella Silver Recitals, and Part-Recitals, and received Peabody Prep Dean’s Recognition Award.
He has also played in the Peabody Violin Choir and toured the country with the Pre-Conservatory Violin Program. Alan attended the Jacobs School of Music Summer String Academy at Indiana University and the Great Wall International Music Academy in Beijing. He has also been a part of the Howard County Enrichment Orchestra and the Maryland All-State Orchestra.
His hobbies include tennis, golf, listening to music, enjoying social life, and traveling. He is an avid reader and also interested in science.
Zhang was selected as the Senior Division String Winner of the 2011 Young Artist Competition. He previously won the Junior Division in 2008.
