More on the 6/27 Sunset Serenade Concert

Music Director Jason Love will open the evening with Arturo Marquez’s Conga del Fuego Nuevo , which is guaranteed to get the audience up and dancing! Hollywood blockbuster movie themes by John Williams will include music from E.T: The Extraterrestrial, Cowboys, and Star Wars. For a blast from the past, the orchestra will perform a medley of Beatles’ tunes that includes When I’m Sixty-Four, Eleanor Rigby, and All You Need Is Love.

The trumpet section will be featured in Leroy Anderson’s classic Bugler’s Holiday. Jeff Tyzik’s Big Movie Suite includes music from Gone with the Wind, Ben Hur, Doctor Zhivago, Rocky, The Pink Panther, and The Way We Were. The Washington Post March will be conducted by Sean McComas, who earned this unique opportunity through the Columbia Orchestra’s 2012 Baton Auction. Closing out the evening will be highlights from the hit musical Wicked, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture—complete with cannon effects!.
