Gianna Baker

Gianna Baker, age 16, is a 10th grade Howard High School student who lives in Elkridge, Maryland. She began studying music at the age of 10 and is a private student of Denis Karp. Gianna performs in the Baltimore Symphony Youth Concert Orchestra and the Howard County High School G/T Orchestra. Additionally, Gianna was accepted into the Maryland Senior All State Orchestra as Co-Principal Flutist in 2021, and the Maryland Junior All State Band as the piccolo player in 2020. She received an acceptance to the Peabody Youth Orchestra and the High School Gifted and Talented Band for Howard County in 2021 and was the winner of the 2021 Flute Society of Washington Honors Competition in the Junior Division. Gianna has performed in several masterclasses with distinguished flutists such as Cynthia Meyers—piccolo player of the Boston Symphony, Sergeant First Class Troy Paolantonio—flutist in the U.S. Army Field Band, and Christine Murphy—assistant principal flutist in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She is also active in the field of chamber music and has participated in the BSYO Chamber Music Program in 2019, and The Gallery Winds Chamber Music Summer Camp 2017-2019 and 2021.

Apart from flute, Gianna is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta (MATH) Honor Society, Tri-M (Music Honor Society), and she is an S4 Assistant in the Howard Lions Junior ROTC Battalion.
