Janie Shih, cello
Janie Shih is a senior at River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland. She was born and raised in Baltimore City for fifteen years before moving to Howard County. Since the age of six she has studied cello at the Peabody Preparatory and is currently studying with Ms. Alison Wells. She has been the principal cellist of the Peabody Youth Orchestra for three years and is the principal cellist of her schools orchestra. She also enjoys playing chamber music with her friends. In 2012, her chamber group received the outstanding student performance award from “Love from Lincoln Center”. Last summer, she participated in the Aspen Summer Music Festival and studied with Professor Richard Aaron. In addition to music, Janie enjoys running and is on the school’s varsity team. Her other hobbies include swimming, biking, filming, and baking.
