Katherine Tich, a ninth grader at Marriotts Ridge High School, is 15 years old and lives in Ellicott City. She has studied the flute for six years under the instruction of Ellen Dooley, a member of the U.S. Marine Band. She plays in the Marriotts Ridge High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Marching Band, and in the pit orchestra for this spring’s musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Katie was a member of the 2010, 2011, and 2012 Maryland All-State Bands, and accompanies the St. John’s Episcopal Church band on flute. She is the 2012 Senior Division Wind Winner of the Columbia Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition. This is her first performance with an orchestra.
Along with involvement in music, Katie plays on the Marriotts Ridge junior varsity softball team. In school she enjoys studying American history and writing. Outside of school, she is a member of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland and the HCYP Patriots softball team. She enjoys reading, biking, and photography.
