Kimberly Christie, soprano
Hailed by The Washington Post as a singer with “uninhibited movement and shining vocal abilities that stood out from the rest”, soprano, Kimberly Christie, is a dynamic and versatile singer, equally skilled in opera, oratorio, recital and musical theater. She performs primarily in the Mid-Atlantic region with a wide variety of companies including Washington National Opera, Maryland Opera, Annapolis Chorale, Baltimore Concert Opera, Central Maryland Chorale, Columbia ProCantare, Harrisburg Choral Society, and the Maryland Choral Society with whom she will debut as soprano soloist in Bach’s cantata Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme this December. This season will also see her debut with the Columbia Pops Orchestra in their pops concert in April.
Opera credits include Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) with AACC Opera, Berta (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Siébel (Faust) with Summer Garden Opera, Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Musetta (La Bohème) with Carroll Summer Opera, Lisa (La Sonnambula) with the IN Series, Nadina (The Chocolate Soldier) with Concert Operetta Theater, La Feé (Cendrillon), Clorinda (La Cenerentola) and Ernestine (M. Choufleuri restera lui le) with Bel Cantanti Opera, Gianetta (L'Elisir d'amore) with Opera Delaware and Baltimore Concert Opera, Nella (Gianni Schicchi) with Wendy Taucher Opera, Serpina (La Serva Padrona) with the Baltimore Vocal Arts Foundation, and Blondchen (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) with ConcertOPERA Philadelphia.
Kimberly enjoys singing all kinds of repertoire including American standards, jazz and musical theater with roles under her belt including Ado Annie (Oklahoma), Carrie (Carousel), Clara (The Light in the Piazza), Sharon (Fininan’s Rainbow), Patience (Patience), Hodel (Fiddler on the Roof), Winnifred (Once Upon A Mattress) and Adelaide (Guys & Dolls), a performance which was praised by the Baltimore Sun as “made irresistible by Kimberly Christie who proved triply skilled as a singer, dancer and comedienne”. She has even appeared in more controversial comedic musicals such as Jerry Springer the Operaand Monty Python’s Not the Messiahwith Bootless Stageworkz. Another unique credit is a private performance for Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg of selections from Derrick Wang’s new opera, Scalia V. Ginsburg.
Concert credits include Handel’s Messiah (Kennedy Center Millennium Series, St. James Parish, Harrisburg Choral Society, Central MD Chorale, Frederick Chamber Singers & Orchestra), Orff’s Carmina Burana(Columbia ProCantare, Long Island Choral Society), Mozart Vespers(Annapolis Chorale), JS Bach’s Magnificat(Advent Project), the Mozart Requiem (LICS) and the Fauré Requiem (Harrisburg Choral Society) among others.
Kimberly holds a Master of Music degree in vocal performance from Peabody Conservatory as well as a Bachelor of Music degree from Rutgers University and is currently based out of Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to her stage performance, she is a regular outreach performer for Maryland Opera, formally Baltimore Opera, traveling to schools, retirement centers, senior centers, and other public venues in Baltimore city, county and other surrounding areas to perform, play games and share her love of opera, singing and music with all ages.
