Miyabi Henriksen, violin
Miyabi Henriksen, 18, is a violinist studying with Herbert Greenberg at the Peabody Preparatory, where she is the recipient of the Director’s Award and Elmer Burgess Award. She is concertmaster of the Peabody Youth Orchestra and a member of the Peabody Pre-Conservatory Violin Program.
Miyabi frequently performs for various events including those hosted by the Washington Performing Arts (WPA) and the Friday Morning Music Club in the DC/MD area. Events have included a musical tribute for Midori at the WPA Ambassador of the Arts Award presentation and performing at the residences of the Japanese Ambassador and Jaqueline Mars.
Competitions Miyabi has won include the Peabody Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, Londontowne Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, Friday Morning Music Club Competition, and MTNA Eastern Division Competition.
Miyabi attended the Meadowmount School of Music for three summers and in the summer of 2021 was a teaching assistant for Ivan Zenaty’s studio. She also enjoys tutoring violin students for the Do Re Mi Project.
Miyabi was accepted to the Juilliard School, Cleveland Institute of Music, Peabody Institute, Rice University, the University of Southern California, and the University of Michigan as a violin performance major. She plans to study with Paul Kantor at Rice University starting this Fall.
Miyabi’s strong passion for performing is also demonstrated in her love for dance. She is an active member of the Senior Dance Company, Dance Team, and Cheer Team of Howard High School. In her free time, she enjoys creating outfits, planning events, and visiting museums and gardens.
