Education Programs
The mission of the Columbia Orchestra is to foster lifelong appreciation of, enthusiasm for, and participation in music. Through our education programs, we engage children with orchestral music and musical instruments, nurturing a lifelong passion for classical music.
Public Family Concerts
Free tickets for children under the age of 12. These concerts provide familiar music such as popular classics including “Peter and the Wolf” and “Carnival of the Animals”. These events provide many opportunities to learn about composers, instruments, and cultural traditions.
In-School Concerts
These interactive programs are created to reinforce the 3rd Grade Music Curriculum, including the musical elements of rhythm, major and minor modes, cultural expression, and form.
Small Group Concerts
These programs are designed for 3–6-year-olds but are adapted for the age group of each specific audience. These interactive concerts, performed in preschools, elementary schools, libraries, and HeadStart programs, serve as an introduction to families or orchestra instruments as well as a celebration of music from around the world.
Traveling Artist Coaches
This post pandemic program brings string specialists into Howard County Title One schools whose orchestra teacher is not primarily a string player and offer small group coaching to both teacher and student.
Virtual Coachings
Created with the orchestra teacher in mind, each session focuses on a particular string instrument and includes best practices to increase classroom success.
