About the Concert

This is a concert full of fantasy! What happens when Berlioz gets rejected by the girl of his dreams? He writes a symphony filled with candlelit ballrooms, opium nightmares, a march to the gallows, and even a witches' sabbath! We celebrate John Adams’ 70th birthday with The Chairman Dances, a companion piece to the opera, Nixon in China. Madame Mao crashes a presidential banquet, dances a sensual dance, and then her late husband descends from his portrait on the wall to take her hand one last time in an elegant and tuneful foxtrot. And this is your chance to hear one of the most famous works for guitar and orchestra played live by a true virtuoso!
